      Amrapari (We Can) is a women’s collective that was created during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown as a way of creating sustainable livelihoods for char-chapori women in Assam. Many of these women were daily wage earners (e.g., in fisheries, agricultural work, brick kilns, etc.) who suddenly found themselves without work during the lockdown. Their extreme food insecurities were exacerbated by several spates of floods. Started and led by Manjuwara Mullah, a local women’s rights activist and longtime community worker in Barpeta district Assam, Amrapari seeks to support women’s empowerment and economic self-sufficiency. This is primarily accomplished by supporting women in making and selling embroidered quilts—a legacy of women in char chapori areas.

আম্রাপাৰী (আমিও পাৰো) — এটি আশাৰ প্ৰতীক। এই মহিলাসমূহৰ উদ্যোগ গঠন কৰা হৈছিল COVID-19 মহামাৰী আৰু লকডাউনৰ কঠিন সময়চোৱাত, যেতিয়া অসমৰ চৰ-চাপৰি অঞ্চলৰ হাজাৰ হাজাৰ মহিলা হঠাৎকৈ নিজৰ জীৱিকাৰ পথ হেৰুৱাই পেলালে।এই মহিলাসকলৰ অধিকাংশেই আছিল দিন-মজুৰি কৰা শ্রমজীৱী – মাছ ধৰাৰ কাম, খেতি-বাতি, ইঁটাভাটা আদিৰ জৰিয়তে সংসাৰ চলাইছিল। কিন্তু লকডাউনৰ সময়ত সকলো কাম বন্ধ হৈ পৰে। ইয়াৰ লগতে একাধিকবাৰ বানপানীয়ে খাদ্য সংকটক অধিক গভীৰ কৰি তোলে। সেই সময়ত আবিৰ্ভাব ঘটে আম্রাপাৰী-ৰ – এটি শক্তিৰ নাম, এটি সহায়ৰ হাত।মঞ্জুৱাৰা মোল্লা, এগৰাকী খ্যাতনামা মহিলা অধিকাৰ কাৰ্যকৰী আৰু বৰপেটাৰ অভিজ্ঞ সমাজকৰ্মীয়ে এই আন্দোলনৰ নেতৃত্ব দিয়ে। তেওঁ এই উদ্যোগ আৰম্ভ কৰে, যাতে মহিলাসকলে আত্মনির্ভৰশীলতা আর্জন কৰি নিজৰ পায়ে উঠি থিয় দিব পাৰে।আম্রাপাৰীৰ মূল কাম চৰ-চাপৰি অঞ্চলৰ পৰম্পৰাগত কাঁথা (হাত-সিঁচনি) শিল্পক আধুনিক বজাৰত স্থান দিয়াৰ মাধ্যমে মহিলাসকলৰ আয়ৰ পথ উন্মুক্ত কৰা। এই শিল্পৰ জৰিয়তে মহিলাসকলে নিজৰ উৎপাদন বিক্ৰী কৰি আত্মসম্মানৰ সৈতে জীৱন গঢ়ি তুলিছে।
